Dashing Fave … B & G Pies

Posted by on November 27, 2013

When you say the name B & G pies to most people, a memory of eating an ________ (fill in the blank with your favorite flavor) pie as a child or with someone special is shared.   Since 1949, B & G pies have been created by hand with care and real ingredients.  Current head of B & G pies, Shannon Wilson feels that she has been entrusted with the recipes and memories and takes the legacy very seriously.

I got a tour of the pie kitchen the other day and was thrilled to see the pies being made by hand with real dough, fruit, and sugar. The caring women making the pies by hand make them even more delicious to me.

Shannon was very forthcoming with the fact that she is not willing to compromise the recipe so that the pie can stay on shelves longer.  The integrity and heritage of B & G pies lies on her shoulders and she takes it very seriously ensuring that the nostalgic feelings surrounding B & G pies continues.

Also on the horizon, is the exciting news that there is at least one new flavor coming in the fall of 2014.  Sweet Potato Pie.  Yum! B & G collaborated with Julia Chandler to create a new recipe, I’m sure it is going to be a smashing success for B & G pies.  I can’t wait to try it.

My favorite is the apple pie!!  Yum, Yum, Yum.  Many Thanks to Shannon for taking time out of her busy day to show me the pie kitchen and also tell me all about their history.  B & G Pies are a city treasure.  I think Santa should put one in everyone’s stocking this year!!
