Daphne and I are back after a little hiatus and our appetites are huge! We are excited to be reviewing our time at one of Winston-Salem’s favorite spots… Mary’s Gourmet Diner. My first time at Mary’s was when it was still on Brookstown Avenue. The restaurant was always packed, I became a fan with the grilled cheese right away. Fast forward a few years later, the location now on 723 Trade Street has outdoor and indoor seating, eclectic furnishings, and a whole lot of good vibes when you walk through the door.
It was a beautiful day and Daphne and I decided to eat outside. Yay for Spring… we’ve missed you.
If you have never eaten at Mary’s Gourmet Diner, know that there is a lot of options on this menu. There are about 15 (maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit) ways to get your eggs prepared and then there are 30 (again could be exaggerating) things you can put with your eggs. Breakfast is served all day but there are so many other options as well. The menu is different (read yummy!) than anything else in Winston-Salem. The staff is always super friendly and happy to answer any questions you might have. The elcetic happiness of this place oozes in all the little details down to the fun mugs. Daphne added, “The ambiance was cool. It had awesome artwork. I loved how they served everybody with a different coffee mug and loved the covered outside patio.”
Daphne and I were trying to figure out what to get with all the delicious options, it took us a little while.
Daphne decided on the veggie burrito and spinach as her side. She said,”Favorite part was the outside seating and the flavors of the food I ordered. The burrito had mushrooms, carrots, squash, tomatoes, cheese, and tempeh. It was topped with pica demia and sour cream. It was delicious. It had a good spicy kick to it.”
I was excited to try mine as well
I decided to venture out and try the breakfast nachos. They were delicious.
I loved the chips, avocados, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and egg in them. It was a lot of flavor and might be a new fave for me.
The main dining room is really fun as well and I popped back in so I could take a quick picture of it for y’all.
For those of you that have expressed concern about driving downtown and finding a parking spot… (PS — I’m currently rolling my eyes at you)
There is a parking lot.
So if you haven’t been to Mary’s Gourmet Diner… go today! What is stopping you?
Daphne wanted to add one more note, “Readers should know that this is not just a breakfast place, they have awesome sandwiches and salads as well. The goat cheese salad sounded Devine!”
As a quick word of caution … Sunday brunch is fantastic but also the busiest time. I love Thursday around 11 a.m. there is no wait 🙂
